Dr. Alexander Voted “Top Doc” in Bariatric Surgery for 16th Consecutive Year
Dr. Alexander Abkin has been voted “Top Doc” in Bariatric Surgery by New Jersey Monthly Magazine for 16th consecutive year (since 2007).
Dr. Abkin and his practice is dedicated to providing a comprehensive, permanent weight loss solution with both bariatric surgery and medical options. His team includes surgeons, a nurse practitioner, registered nurses, registered dietitians and behavioral health professionals.
An innovator in his field, Dr. Abkin is one of the first to offer the ReShape™ intragastric balloon, approved by the FDA in July 2015. He was the first surgeon in the Northeast to implant the Realize® Band in 2007, and the first surgeon on the East Coast to perform a single-incision gastric bypass in 2009.
He and his group provide a full spectrum of surgical weight loss services, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric banding and revision surgery. In the past 22 years, he has performed more than 10,000 bariatric procedures.

Dr. Abkin is a board-certified surgeon, and his practice was recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is medical director of bariatric surgery at Saint Clare’s Health System (Dover) and Hackensack Meridian Health (JFK), both designated comprehensive bariatric surgery centers by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Abkin is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
